Everything Fleet would like to introduce Keith and peek behind the curtains to get to know him a little better and learn about his journey.
Keith started his ‘career’ as a car detailer for Jonday many years ago, around the same time Darla was employed. Eventually, Keith and Warren purchased Jonday from Tony Hiller, and from there the business exploded into becoming the largest second Thrifty franchisee in Australia. When NRMA decided to rebrand their corporate offices as the German brand, Sixt, Keith decided to cancel the franchisee relationship and step out on his own as an independent brand – Everything Fleet.
Although Keith had been Thrifty blue for more than 30 years, he had grown Jonday to be the leading vehicle rental operator in Southeast Queensland, the Western Regions and Northern and Central NSW and knew standing as an independent was a better option than becoming a franchisee given the ongoing challenges the industry was being faced with.
Keith, tell us a bit about yourself…
It’s commonly known I started off as a car detailer and moved my way up in the company to eventual ownership. This is quite a unique progression but it allows me to have a greater understanding of the business because I have worked in every facet of it.
Professionally, what are you proud about?
I think there has been many proud moments. Of the top of my head, it would be winning the tender to supply cars for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and walking out of the GFC and the pandemic with a strong, well-rounded business intact. However, it goes without saying that it also has to be the team that makes up Jonday — not many businesses can say they have staff who have 10, 20 or 30 years of service in the fast-paced, absolutely chaotic car rental industry.
What was your first car?
HK Holden Premier – it was the only car I could afford at the time.
What is your favourite car?
I don’t think I can revert to just one. I like any of the classic cars. I also like the modern cars like the Jimny because it’s fun to get around.
What is your favourite road trip?
In the USA, driving through the national parks scattered around Utah, Colorado, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana. In Australia, everywhere is beautiful. Maybe Gold Coast to Sydney, along the coastal road, but then again, the area around Kings Canyon, NT is also magnificent and short-day trips to Tenterfield, NSW or the Scenic Rim region in Queensland.
