Although Canberra might seem like quite a distance from Sydney, it actually only takes just over 3 hours to drive, if you drive your Everything Fleet car directly on the Hume Highway 31, following the M5 tollway.
The Australian capital is well worth a visit and a road trip can easily be extended to multiple days or even a week, to make the most of your journeying.
If doing the latter, the team at Everything Fleet recommends you opt for the more scenic routes such as the one following the Princess Highway, to Batemans Bay. Visit Braidwood and Bungendore which are some historic towns, while taking the King’s Highway.
Another route flaunts the views of Sutton Forrest, Moss Vale, Mittagong, and Bowral. Follow the Old Hume Highway after taking the Mittagong exit from the F5 Freeway.
Did you know that Canberra is the capital of Australia? Many people mistakenly think it’s Sydney!
If you plan on only staying for a short while then the best way to view the city is from Mt. Ainslie which gives views of the entire city and beyond.
You can then hike down to see the Australian War Memorial and museum.
We also highly recommend taking a guided tour of Parliament House. It’s not every day you’re in the capital of Australia!
The tour allows you to take a deep dive into Australian politics and get an insight into how the country is run.
Even if politics isn’t your top interest, you’ll still love Canberra as there is a wide range of museums and galleries such as the National Museum of Australia or the National Gallery.

For the ultimate once in a lifetime experience, why not stay at the Jamala Wildlife Lodge? Run by a local family that has seen five generations born in Canberra, you will need to book well in advance but it’s worth the wait.
